His father, Roland Burbridge a Revolutionary soldier was born in 1745 and died in 1842 at the age of 97 years. He is buried in the Buffalo Cemetery three miles south of Louisiana, Missouri. On his tombstone is the following inscription, "Roland Burbridge a revolutionary soldier, died in 1842, age 97 years." He was married at or near Glascon in Bath County, Kentucky to Jane Wells who was born in 1750 and died in 1835. He enlisted in the army from Virginia, serving in the battle of Cowpens, in which he was wounded and taken prisoner by the British, by whom he was cruelly treated.
Roland Burbridge moved from Virginia to Kentucky in an early day when the Indian were thick and very hostile. The people had to live in Forts and has to keep a guard out to watch while they made their clearings and planted their crops. Then the Indians would often slip in and murder their whole families and steal their horses. Sometimes they would capture the women and children and as a rule kill the men when they fell into their hands. They would often kill the children by knocking their heads against the trees. Usually the houses were burned to force the families out so they could kill or capture them.
Roland Burbridge had a family of 11 children, 8 boys and 3 girls. All lived to have families save one, namely Jessie, who died in Pike county, Missouri when he was young. The names of the remainder of the children were Robert, Thomas, James, Benjamin, William, Jackson, Joseph, Mary, (who was know as Polly) Patsy (Martha), and Elizabeth.
*POLLY married a man by the name of Mitts. She lived and died in Sangamon County, Illinois near Springfield.
*ELIZABETH was married to James Underwood. They lived in Monroe County, Missouri and died there.
*ROBERT Burbridge was born in Bath County, Kentucky in January 5, 1779 and died May 23, 1846 at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 18 days. He died in Pike County, Illinois and is buried in Burbridge cemetery. He was married to Jaley Ann Richards who was born January 11, 1784, and died September 11, 1851, at the age of 67 years and 8 months. Both Robert and his wife were natives of Kentucky.
In 1825 they moved to Missouri, and located near Louisiana in Pike County. They remained there until 1842 when in the spring of that year they came to Pike County, Illinois, and moved onto the farm in Hardin township 4 and one half miles north of Nebo and 9 miles south of Pittsfield. They both remained there until death. The Burbridges and Richards came to Kentucky at the same time. The father of Jaley was killed by the Indians while getting his plunder across the Ohio river on a flat boat, on their journey to Kentucky.
The family of Robert Burbridge consisted of 11 children, 8 boys and 3 girls. Their names were as follows, Thomas B., George, Jaley Ann, Absolm, Roland, William, Elizabeth, Polly, John, Harrison, Carolile.
*ABSOLM, the eldest, in company with his younger brother *ROLAND went to Galena, Illinois when that territory was a great mining country for lead and both fell sick and died there.
*WILLIAM, the next, died in Pike County, Missouri.
*ELIZABETH, *JOHN and *HARRISON died in Pike County, Illinois.
*POLLY married Thomas Anson and they lived and died in Pike County, Illinois.
*CAROLILE went to Oregon and died there.
*THOMAS married Mary McNary. Both lived and died in Pike County, Illinois.
*GEORGE married Nancy Benn, both living and dying in Pike County, Illinois.
*JALEY ANN married D. D. Hicks. They too were life long residents of Pike County, Illinois and are buried in the Burbridge Cemetery. (I think this is a mistake and they are buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield-kr)

The History for the older generations was written by Thomas B. Burbridge on March 1883. The remainder was written by Robert Burbridge, his son, on November 28, 1937.
