Floyd Kniffen Sr., 64 of Shivertown Road, New Paltz, died unexpectedly Friday at his home. He was born March 25, 1901, in New Paltz, son of the late Edward and Daisy Coddington Kniffen, He was a retired carpenter who was employed a number of years at the State University College, New Paltz. He is survived by a son, Floyd Jr. of New Paltz; a daughter Mrs. Catherine Ede of Kingston; 4 brothers, Harry of Warwick, John of N.J., Albert of Amenia, and Walter of Rosendale. Six sisters also survive. They include Mrs. Flossie Ruger of Poughkeepsie, Mrs. Mabel Hasbrouck, New Paltz, Mrs. Amanda Hasbrouck, New Paltz, Mrs. Sadie Reynolds, Maybrook, Mrs. Dorothy Alter, Kingston, and Mrs. Bessie MacDowell, Kingston. Seven grandchildren, a great grand child and several nieces and nephews also survive. Mr. Kniffen was an associate member of the New Paltz Fire Department, associate member of the New Paltz Rod and Gun Club and a member of the Civil Service Employees Association. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Pine Funeral Home, New Paltz with the Rev. Gerret Wullschleger, of the New Paltz Reformed Church, officiating. Burial was in the New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
