WALTER KNIFFEN
ROSENDALE - Walter Kniffen, of Elting Road a lifelong area resident, died Monday at his residence. He was 68.
Mr. Kniffen had been employed by Century Cement Manufacturing in Rosendale until its closing. He later worked as a security guard at the A.J. Snyder Estate and also at IMAR in Rosendale.
During World War II, he served with the U.S.Army.
Born in New Paltz, Aug. 8, 1923, he was the son of the late Edward and Daisy Coddington Kniffen.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Vera Niles Kniffen; a daughter, Heidi Carhart of Ravena; two sons, Jerry Niles of New Paltz and Jeffrey Kniffen of Kingston; two sisters, Elizabeth MacDowell of Kingston and Dorothy Kniffen of Accord; a brother, Albert Kniffen of Delaware; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at George J. Moylan Funeral Home, Route 32, Rosendale. Burial will be in New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
