Funeral services were conducted yesterday for Edward Kniffen, 78, of 55 Elting road, Rosendale, formerly of New Paltz, who died unexpectedly of a heart seizure Monday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Flossie Rugar, Highland, where he had gone for a visit for a few days.
Services were held at the Pine Funeral home, New Paltz, at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Gerret Wullschleger, minister of the New Paltz Reformed church, officiating. Burial was in the New Paltz Rural cemetery.
A retired carpenter, Mr. Kniffen was born in New Paltz, the son of the late Alonzo and Mary Elizabeth Clearwater Kniffen. His wife, Mrs. Daisy Bell Coddington Kniffen, died 12 years ago.
Surviving are five sons, Floyd and John Kniffen, New Paltz, Harry Kniffen, Warwick, Albert Kniffen, Amenia, and Walter Kniffen, Rosendale; seven [sic] daughters. Mrs. Rugar in Highland, Mrs. Mabel Hasbrouck, and Mrs. Amanda Hasbrouck, New Paltz, Mrs. Sadie Reynolds, Campbell Hall and Mrs. Dorothy Alther and Mrs. Bessie McDowell, Kingston; two brothers, Walter Kniffen, Syracuse, and Webb Kniffen, New Paltz; 22 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
