Carol was the youngest of nine children born to Karolina Sabat and Joseph Maliawsky who emigrated to the United States from Poland and Russia (now Belarus) in the early 20th century. She was the only child born while the family lived in Fairview, Bergen County. She grew up at 247 Halladay Street, Jersey City, Hudson County, where the family had settled permanently by 1935.
In 1949, Carol moved with her sister Olga to Fort Lauderdale, Broward County, Florida. She never returned to New Jersey. City directories through 1959 place the sisters in Fort Lauderdale with both working in photography.
Family members from Jersey City visited them circa 1965 and 1974. In both instances, Carol was reportedly ill. She is listed as a survivor in her mother's 1975 obituary as "Miss Caroline". There was occasional contact with their brothers Alex and John and John's wife Irene. Olga is listed in a 1996 Fort Lauderdale directory, but not Carol.
The Broward County online official records search produces no results for period '1/1/1978 to Present' for Carol. It does produce a 2010 document record for Olga and a 1980 court action with "Olga Maliawsky et al" listed as plaintiffs. This appears to have been a landlord/tenant issue that was voluntarily dismissed.
In 2017, Olga's May 2016 obituary was found but there is no mention of survivors.
No written record of any sort has been found for Carol since 1975. She is presumed to have passed on sometime between 1980 and 1996.
