SPANISH FORK--Thomas Merrill Ashby, 72, died at his residence Monday morning of a heart attack.

Born September 21, 1899, Lake Shore, Utah County, a son of Samuel and Emma P. Clayson Ashby. Married Edna Holt October 18, 1911, in the Salt Lake Temple. Employee of the Rio Grande Railroad and Utah Idaho Sugar Co. prior to working on the construction of Geneva Steel until his retirement. Member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Served a Central Mission from 1911 to 1914. High Priest in the Spanish Fork First Ward, serving as president of the high priests quorum and formerly in the superintendency of the First Ward Sunday School.

Surviors: widow, son, three daughters, Merrill H. Ashby, Spanish Fork; Mrs. Merlynn (Martha) Tanner, Payson; Mrs. Sterling (Grace) Bradford, Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Nylan (Lois) Ellsworth, Glendale, California; 17 grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, Albert Ashby, Payson; Heber Ashby, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Floyd Brown, Koosharem; Mrs. Henry Clark, Benjamin.

Funeral services Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork First Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday at the family home, Spanish Fork, prior to services. Burial in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
