Susannah Hyatt was born in Knox county, Ohio, September 14, 1839 and passed away at the home of her son, Ben Workman, near Mankato, November 4, 1926, age 87 years, 1 month and twenty days.
She lived with her parents until her marriage to Jerome Workman of Delaware county, Iowa, January 5, 1857. They moved to Iowa in 1865, and came to Kansas in the summer of 1874, and homesteaded the Mahin farm, northeast of where Courtland is now.
To this union were born 13 children, 4 dying in infancy; her husband and nine children preceeded her in death, her husband Jerome Workman died December 23, 1902; three sons, Marshall, Peter and George, George died July 29, 1911; two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Standley died November 26, 1907, Mrs. Jennie Raymoond died in 1917.
She is survived by one brother, one sister, one son, three daughters, 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She joined the Baptist church in childhood, later she and husband became members of the Christian church at Courtland.
The funeral, under direction of Albert Haskett, was held at the Christian church in Courtland in the afternoon of November 6.
