Former owner of the White Way Motor Co. at Waterville, he added the Chevrolet agency in Frankfort in 1926 and the Chevrolet agency at Seneca in 1932, which he operated under the name of Monteith Motors.
The son of John A. and Sarah Fincham Monteith, he was born Aug. 18, 1889 on a farm near Winkler, Riley County, KS. and moved to a farm near Blue Rapids as a child. He was the second son in a family of four boys and two girls.
While living on a farm in the Life school district near Beattie, KS. he met Maud McMillan whom he married June 4, 1918. They located in Blue Rapids where he was a salesman for G. Van Valkenberg. Soon after, he established his own Chevrolet agency in Waterville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maud; his parents; two brothers, John A Jr. and Millard F. Monteith.
Survivors were two sisters, Mr. Jennie Critchlow, Blue Rapids, KS and Mrs. Bernice Shrock, Denver, CO. and one brother, Merle Monteith.
Martin Hubbard was organist and accompanied Mrs. C. H. Youngberg, who sang "Rock of Ages" and "In the Garden".
Casket bearers were Quentin McMillan, J. K. McMillan, Melvin Elliott, Lloyd Barleen, Fred Dummermuth, and George Benefield.
Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Waterville, Ks with arrangements by Youngbergs.
