Mr. Sherwood was an avid bicyclist who loved to attend auto races and concerts with his friends and family. He wrote a book "Old Roads" about bicycling in Indiana, and biked all over the United States. Bill worked part-time interviewing prospective Big Brothers in addition to having his own little brother in the program.
Bill worked with foster parents and was even a foster parent himself. He sat on numerous boards and committees dealing with mental health issues and did a lot of public speaking. Mr. Sherwood also volunteered at the Kenneth Butler Soup Kitchen. Bill was a great entertainer and storyteller.
Surviving him are his loving wife of 43 years, JoAnne Waggoner Sherwood of New Palestine; daughter, Sarah (Rick) Wampner; granddaughters, Madelyn and Katelyn Wampner; brothers, Harley (Hallie) Sherwood, Dave (Marilyn) Sherwood, and Kermit (Judy) Sherwood; several nieces and nephews; a godson, Luke Mohlman; and many special friends and family. Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Carol Souder, Colleen Lushell, and Sandra Schroeder; and brothers, Charles Sherwood and James Sherwood.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 29, 2013, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial will take place at East Hill Cemetery in Rushville.
