Voetberg, Ben (Died 1972)

Funeral services will be held at the First Reformed Church In Rock Valley at 1:30 p.m., Friday, April 14 for Ben Voetberg, 50, Rock Valley plumber, who died Tuesday in a cave-in of a trench at a housing development in Rock Valley.

Services will be conducted by the Rev. John Engbers and burial will be made in the Rock Valley Cemetery.

Mr. Voetberg was installing water lines in a trench between two houses when the cave-in occurred.

He was buried for approximately 30 minutes.

The trench, in sandy soil, was 10 to 12 feet deep, and there was no shoring, authorities reported.

Mr. Voetberg was alone in the trench at the time of the cave-in.

He was uncovered by two men who were working on the project with him, his son Harvard Voetberg, and his brother-in-law, Ron Koldenhoven.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Harvey, Rock Valley, Mario, Waverly, and Bryan, at home; two brothers, Bert of Rock Valley and Ralph of Granville, Mich., four sisters, Mrs. John Feenstra, Lyndon, Wash., Mrs. Peter Boer, Mrs. John Overweg, both of Rock Valley, Mrs. Gradus Overweg, New Howland, S.D.; one grandchild.
