Mrs. Arline Edna Smith, 95, of Walkersville, died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at her daughter's home after a life well-lived.

Born January 17, 1918 in Harmony, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Brandenburg and Fannie Martha Daisy Wise Brandenburg. She was the wife of J. Alton Smith who died in 1979; she and her husband were dairy farmers for 35 years. Mrs. Smith was a member of Grace Rocky Hill Lutheran Church, the Willing Workers and the Sewing Circle, and supported activities of the Glade Valley Lions Club and Walkersville Volunteer Fire Department. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially homemade bread, doughnuts and sticky buns, flower gardening, traveling throughout the United States and Germany, helping with the church festivals, and babysitting her beloved grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Toms and husband George with children Sandra Toms and daughters Hannah and Rachel; David Toms and children Matthew, Kara and Andrew with greatgreat- grandchildren Karen and Michael; Beth Abrecht and daughters Jennifer and husband Steve Speak with great-great-grandson Braeden and Sara with great-great-granddaughter Leah, and Laurie Poole and husband David with daughter Georgia; son-in-law Jim Carmack with children Jimmy Carmack and wife Denise and children Kelly and Kevin with wife Kendra, and Becky Johnson with husband John and children Bradley, Jesse, McKayla and Ryan, Cody and Tyler; and a son, Larry A. Smith and wife Sharon with children Derek Smith and children Jacob, Justin, and Emily, Amie Smith and daughter Olivia, and Joseph and Andrea Spinelli; and children Bella, Jackson and Mykel of deceased grandson Michael Smith.

Mrs. Smith is also survived by three sisters-in-laws, Helen, Betty and Kathleen Brandenburg and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carolee Carmack and 14 brothers and sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, March 4, 2013 at Rocky Hill Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gordon Narvesen officiating. Interment will be in Rocky Hill Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 404 S. Main St., Woodsboro, 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm Sunday, March 3.
