Helen M. Beers Oakes Griffin, 85, of Tippery Road, Seneca, died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at home after a brief illness from cancer. Born Sept. 2, 1927, in Franklin, she was the daughter of Manuel and Cleo (McCune) Beers.

She volunteered ministering and playing the piano for the residents at the Golden Living Center in Oil City. She was a member of the Sweet Tart Red Hatters of Seneca, the Living Word Church where she played the piano during the offertory each Sunday, and the Spring of Life Ladies group there. She believed deeply in the power of prayer and was known by many as a strong prayer warrior. She was a generous and giving person who contributed to many missions and charities. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and cherished time spent with her family. She had an infectious laugh that everyone in her family loved to hear.

On July 15, 1945, she married Pirl D. "Pete" Oakes Jr., who died May 9, 1992. On June 6, 1998 she married John Griffin, who survives, with five children, Lorraine (Vernon) Sparks of Oil City, Rebecca (John) Earp of Nickleville, Manuel "Tim" (Janet) Oakes of Kennerdell, Cindy (Tom) Hanna of Seneca, and Randy Oakes and his fiance Beth Phillips of Venus; and three step-children, Dixie (Dick) LeMier, William (Nancy) Griffin, and Ronald (Deb) Griffin, all of Oil City; 17 grandchildren, Chris (Diane) Sparks, Brenda (Todd) Best, Craig (Melanie) Sparks, Penny (Craig) Thomas, Steve Roseberry and fiance Tina Chambers, Stephanie (Ritchie) Hunt, Nicole Chalmers, Joseph (Christy) Oakes, Jason (Janel) Hanna, Trevor (Marcy) Hanna, Susan (Michale) Burris, Amber Oakes, Keera Oakes, Amanda Hollabaugh, Justice Oakes, Randy Moorehead, and Stryker Puleo; numerous step-grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Faye (Ed) Peterson of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Deceased are her parents; first husband; two sisters, Barbara Porter and Sue Proper; two brother, George and Braden Beers; a step-daughter, Lois Moyer; a great-great-granddaughter, Keira Motter; a daughter-in-law, Linda Oakes; and two sons-in-law, Stephen Roseberry Sr. and Armand Roseberry.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hile-Best Funeral Home with Pastor Trevor Hanna, her grandson and pastor of the Living Word Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery near Dempseytown.
