"PIRL D. OAKES JR."
Pirl D. "Pete" Oakes Jr., 68, of Seneca RD 1, died Saturday morning, May 9, in his home. Born Nov. 11, 1923, in Oil City, he was a son of Pirl D. Oakes Sr. and Ida Moon Oakes. Mrs. Oakes was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was employed by R.N. Goss Gas Co., retiring after 28 years of service. Mr. Oakes was a member of Calvary Temple in Oil City.
He was married July 15, 1945, to the former Helen M. Beers, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Timothy Oakes of Kennerdall and Randy Oakes of Seneca; three daughters, Mrs. Vernon (Lorraine) Sparks of Oil City, and Becky Roseberry and Mrs. Thomas (Cindy) Hanna, both of Seneca; four sisters, Grace Carson of Seneca, Laura Troutman of Oil City RD 2, Dorothy Books of Venus RD 1 and Minnie Griffin of Cooperstown RD 1; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Oakes was preceeded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lionel Oakes and Harry Oakes.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Timothy Haag, pastor of Calvary Temple, officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Visiting Nurses Association of Venango County.
