Phyllis Lee (LaFave) Dowlen, 71, St. Joseph, passed from this life on Thursday, Feb. 14 ,2013, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo. She was born Feb. 6, 1942, in St. Joseph to Jule and Leona (Jackson) LaFave. Phyllis married William "Bill" Dowlen III on Jan. 7, 1961, in St. Joseph and he preceded her in death.
She enjoyed puzzles, playing pitch, was a good cook, and loved her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Survivors include sons, Bill (Kim) Dowlen, St. Joseph, Brian (Janice) Dowlen, Platte City, Mo.; daughter, Morgan (Brian) Hobbs, St. Joseph; brothers, Jerry and Jimmie LaFave both of St. Joseph; sister, Allean Major of St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, Lisa and April, three sisters, and seven brothers.
Celebration of Life: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Gladden - Stamey Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, St. Joseph. Public visitation and family receiving hours 6 to 8 p.m. Monday. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association
