Surviving are his wife Willie Mae; his daughter Tonia ;two step-daughters Tammy Gibson and Theresa Lightning; eight sons, Gilbert Jr, Steven of Atlanta, Kevin of Indy ,Todd(step-son),Ronald, Rodney, Terrell, and Ryan all of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Alberta Smith and Glayds Datcher, both of Calera AL; three brothers, Howard Jr and Larry of Fort Wayne and Amos, Sr of Calera and five grandchildren.
Gilbert was 52 years, 8 months, 19 days. He was a leap year baby.
Gilbert was Valedictorian of his class at Shelby County Training School.
