Howard, was the oldest born to Leona (Hill) and Howard Belcher Sr. He died Monday, May 3rd at Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana at the age of 69. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was a corporal and a paratrooper in the Korean War. After his tour of duty, he came to Fort Wayne where his uncle, James Belcher ("Lil Buddy) was. He met and married the love of his life, Mary Catherine ("Kate") Storey. To this union seven children were born; Margaret Ellen, Leonard and Leona, Anita Yvonne, Kenneth Howard, Evelyn and Michael Maurice. His oldest son Leonard, (Leona's twin) preceded him in death @ three days old. His beloved Kate, passed away on Saturday, October. 9,1965. Howard was heartbroken and never got over her death.
On September 19th,1969, he married Rosie Lee Boyd Harris. She was the mother of five daughters.
He was employed for W&D as a truck driver after his return to civilian life. He retired from L.S. Ayres (they brought out W&D).
Left to cherish his memory are six daughters, Valerie Hicks of Birmingham,AL, Margaret, Leona Smith, Anita and Evelyn (Ted) Whitfield and Janeatra all of Fort Wayne; two sons, Kenneth Belcher of Fort Wayne and Michael (Dee) Belcher of Powder Springs, GA; one brother, Amos Sr of Calera, AL; and two sisters, Alberta (James) Hall of Shelby, AL and Gladys Steen of Clanton, AL; 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; five step-daughters; Christeen (Kenny) Hill, Jim Ella (Walter) Martin, and Rosa Ann Harris all of Fort Wayne; Lorraine Bass of Sacramento, CA and Sandra Harris of Pensacola, Florida and many relatives. Also Sabrina, whom he married and her son DeShawn.
