She lived 64 years, 10 months, and three days. The second child of John and Leticia Mikels, Emma Margaret Mathews was born in Putnam county, Mo., Feb. 10. 1872 and she became Mrs. Joseph E. Mathews on Sept. 18, 1892. To this union three sons were born, namely Ralph S. Mathews, of Licking, Mo., James E., of Unionville, Mo., and Lee R., of Washington D.C. ( In addition to rearing her three sons, she and her husband made a splendid home for her niece, Mrs. Emma Auten-Way of Midwest, Wyo. who passed away in Feb. 1931. )

Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her father in 1894 and her mother in 1923, her sister, Mrs. Ollie Auten, and a small brother, [Louis] Mikels. Besides her husband and three sons she leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mary Marcum of Unionville, Mo., Henry Mikels of Centerville, Ia., James Mikels of Moulton, Ia., Gertrude Wickam, of Cincinnati, Ia., Lora Baugher of Centerville, Ia., Harrison Mikels, also of Centerville, Ia., and Lily Kaitias of Los Angeles, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Sister Matthews was a Christian woman in every sense of the word. She loved God's nature in things. Above all she loved her home and family. Friends she had many. Twenty-five years ago she gave her life to Jesus Christ, after which she united/joined with The First Baptist Church Unionvllle. The funeral was conducted from the Baptist Church in Unionville last Wednesday afternoon, conducted by the pastor. Rev. P. B. Gray after which the body was laid to rest in the Unionville cemetery.
