James Andrew Palmer was born in Jefferson County Alabama and was the son of Levi Palmer & Permelia {Williams} Palmer. James served with the Alabama 2nd Regiment for the last 2 years of the Civil War. James married Sarah Rebecca Cox on March 5, 1865 in Jefferson County, Alabama. James and family migrated about 1890, west to Thurber Texas, to work in the coal mines. They settled near Bridgeport in Wise County Texas and also spent some time in Palo Pinto and Parker Co. At the time of his death he and Sarah were living in Johnson County, near one of their daughters.
