He was the son of the late Clyde R. and Violet M. Warner Gatten.
Mr. Gatten retired from the All American Truck Plaza in Carlisle after 16 years of service, where he was the maintenance supervisor. He had presently been working part-time at the Appalachian Motor Inn, Carlisle, where he also was maintenance supervisor. Mr. Gatten was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1954 to 1960 and while serving in the Navy he received his G.E.D. He was a member of Bethel Assembly of God and the V.F.W. Post 477, both of Carlisle.
He was the husband of Frances "Laurie" Emlet Gatten for 41 years and surviving, in addition to her, are four sons, S. "Lee" Gatten Jr. of Carlisle, Charles "Chuck" Gatten of Enola, John E. Gatten of Newville, and Richard B. M. Gatten of Mechanicsburg; three daughters, Debra R. Campbell and Lisa D. Wannyn, both of Carlisle, and Connie E. Gardner of Wormleysburg; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; four brothers, Richard Gatten and William Gatten, both of Carlisle, Clyde E. Gatten of New York, and Kenneth Gatten of Camp Hill; and three sisters, Patricia Haydon of Mechanicsburg, Beulah Powell of Oklahoma, and Lily Pinchock of Camp Hill.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sheila Gatten and Drucilla Yana.
