Generous and Caring Spirit -

Patricia Dora (Gatten) Haydon, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, went home peacefully on Saturday, June 4, 2016. Patricia was born on Thursday, March 21, 1935, in Carlisle to the late Clyde Richard Gatten and Violet Mae (Warner) Gatten. Patricia was the widow of Stanley Edward Sunday, whom she married in 1968, and who died in 1995. In addition to her parents and first husband, Patricia is preceded in death by her five siblings: Sherrill "Lee" Gatten, Clyde Gatten, Richard "Dick" Gatten, Drucilla "Dru" (Gatten) Yana, and Lily (Gatten) Pinchock.

Patricia's survivors include her husband of 11 years, Christos "Chris" M. Haydon; her four children: Patricia "Patty" Lee Knipe of Mechanicsburg, Jonathan W. Richardson and his wife, Linda, of Ickesburg, PA, Michael M. Richardson and his wife, Gina, of York, PA, Daniel Richardson and his wife, Pam, of Marysville, TN; her 11 grandchildren; her numerous great-grandchildren; and her three siblings: William Gatten and his wife, Becky, of Newville, PA, Kenny Gatten and his wife, Joey, of Enola, PA, Beulah "Boots" (Gatten) Powell; and several nieces and nephews.

Some of Patricia's favorite activities included dancing, swimming, playing cards, reading, discussing politics, debating, and sharing ideas. Patricia loved to entertain, no matter whether it was a big holiday or a simple dinner get together. Her favorite foods were rich and spicy, especially Italian; and she loved anything cooked on the grill. Patricia's family fondly remembers her generous, caring spirit, her sense of humor, and the hospitality she offered to friends, family, and strangers. She would listen to people for hours and take people in until they got back on their feet; it seemed to break Patricia's heart to see people in need. Most of all, Patricia loved and supported her family whenever they needed her.

All are welcome to join Patricia's family at gathering of family and friends on Friday, June 10, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:30 a.m. at Myers - Buhrig Funeral Home and Crematory, 37 East Main Street, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055; with Reverend Father Michael Varvarelis officiating. Burial will be private in Longsdorf Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
