Kenneth W. Gatten, 71, of Mechanicsburg, passed into glory on November 17, 2021 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Carlisle, a son of the late Clyde R. and Violet M. Gatten.

Kenny attended the Penn Elementary School in Carlisle and was still in contact with several of his classmates at the time of his passing.

At age 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served thirteen months in the Vietnam War as a Demolition Expert.

After returning from Vietnam, Kenny met and married his wife: Joanne (M. J.) and enjoyed fifty-one years of marriage and raising their three sons.

He retired from the U.S. Postal Service's Crooked Hill Road Post Office in Harrisburg after thirteen years.

Kenny served in various roles at the River of God church in Enola since 1996. He was a true servant of God and considered it a great responsibility and a privilege to share the love of Jesus with everyone he came into contact with.

He was a faithful husband to his "Ladybug" and a loyal loving father to his three sons and their families. He adored his six grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as: "Pappy,, "Happy," and "Grampa Ken."

In his retired life, Kenny enjoyed quiet times on his from porch, meticulously caring for his lawn, golfing, and sharing stories of the past with his grandchildren. His loss created a great void in the community that surrounded him and he will be deeply missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eight siblings whom he loved very much.

Kenny is survived by his wife of fifty-one years: M. Joanne Gatten; his sons: Kenny W. and Elizabeth Gatten II of Camp Hill, P. Shane and Nicolle Gatten of Etters, and Shawn and Nichole Gatten of Shiremanstown; his granddaughters: Kierstan, Juliana, and Marietta; his grandsons: Kenny III, Joshua, and Ryker; his sister: Beulah Powell of South Dakota; his sister-in-law: Rebecca R. Gatten of Carlisle; his brother-in-law: Bill Russel of Shippensburg; and, his nieces and nephews.

A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service in the River of God Church, 747 Wertzville Road, Enola. Funeral Services will begin at 12:00 PM.

Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
