Arthur David Battle was born to Allen and Joanna (Jackson) Battle on February 17, 1906, in Attala County, MS. He was the third of nine children.


Arthur departed at the age of 97 on January 17, 2004, at Methodist University Hospital in Memphis, TN.


On February 5, 1930, he married Kattie D. Patterson. They were the parents of eight children.


He was preceded in death by his wife Katie; four sons, Delma, David, Jaques, and Esau Larry; parents, and all eight siblings.


Arthur took his responsibilities seriously as he served his lifelong church, Zion Hill A. M. E. Z., as Class Leader and Sunday School Superintendent.


When his health began to fail, he moved to Memphis, TN; to live with his daughter.


East Wing and Zion Hill Schools gave him his foundation in education. He was a Master Mason, his mentors were Louis Gray and Florence Whittington.


Arthur is survived by four children: daughters, Katherine (Robert) Terrell, and Imogene (Rev. Donald) Cowley of Memphis, TN; sons, Leonard Battle of Macon, GA; and Marion Harry "Rajabu" Battle of Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law, Barbara Battle of Gloster, MS. He also leaves twelve loving grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends are left to mourn his loss and cherish his memory.
