Leonard C. Battle

Leonard Clyde Battle, 83, a retired school teacher for Bibb County Board of Education, of Macon, GA; died January 6, 2021, in Duluth, GA.

Leonard was a graduate of Zion Hill Elementary and Wesley Chapel High School in Carthage, MS. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Tougaloo College, where he entered at 16 years of age on a Ford Scholarship. While there, he was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and sang in the College Choir. During the Korean War, he served 2 years in the U. S. Army in Yuma, AZ; as a statistician for ordinance testing. He taught mathematics for 7 years in MS; before relocating to Macon, GA; where he taught at Ballard Hudson and Southwest High Schools before retiring in 1993.

Survivors include his two children, Lynn (Eric) Shaw of Duluth, GA; and James (Tennille) Battle of Macon, GA; one sister, Katherine Battle Terrell of Memphis, TN; one sister-in-law, Barbara Battle of Gloster, MS; one granddaughter, Destiny Shaw and four great-grandchildren, Kamren Shaw, Karmen Shaw, Taylor Shaw and Ava Flonnory of Sandersville, GA; former spouse, Johnnie Jewel Hardeman Battle of Macon, GA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family, fraternity brothers, and friends.

Burial in Zion Hill A. M. E. Z. Church Cemetery
Visitation from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Myrick Funeral Home
501 E. Main St., Carthage, MS 39051.
Graveside Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Hill
A. M. E. Z. Church Cemetery on
Battle Road in Carthage, MS.
Please observe the Covid-19 protocol as masks are mandatory.
A Memorial Service for beloved friends and extended family
will be held later this year in Macon, GA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tougaloo College
on behalf of the deceased.
