Jim Delma "Doc" Battle was born to Allan and Joanna Jackson Battle on February 26, 1909 the sixth of nine children. He departed this life at the State Veteran's Nursing Home in Kosciusko, on November 14, 2003, at the age of 94.
He married Christine Shells on November 2, 1946. To this union three children were born. He wife, daughter Hilda, father mother and seven siblings preceded him in death.
"Doc" was a devoted lifelong member of Zion Hill Union AME Zion Church, where he served as Preacher's Steward until he became disabled. His education included attendance at Zion Hill Elementary, Wesley Chapel, and Rust College Extension. He served his country in the United States Army, where he developed skills as a master cook in Portland. Oregon.
He loved the people of Zion Hill Community, town of Carthage, and Leake County who will miss his vivacious and supportive spirit. Doc demonstrated his belief in education through his involvement in Jordan High school and making sure that all of his children were college graduates.
