Vernie was born May 3, 1909 in Cable, the son of the late George and Grace (Ewing) Woodbeck. He met Evelyn Falk, and they were married in Hayward on Feb. 2, 1941. She died April 9, 1990. Vernie was known for his artistic ability, especially his longtime involvement, along with his wife Evelyn, in the Musky Festival parade floats.

Vernie is survived by two brothers, Lyle (Carol) Woodbeck, Hayward, and Lew Allen (Arlene)Woodbeck, Sparta; six sisters, Emily Biell, Helen Koerner, Charlotte Miles, and Jean (Harold) Rang, all of Hayward, Lyda Wetzel, Wausau, and June (Everett) Wetterling, Rice Lake; and his sister-in-law, Marie Wolf, Hayward.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 6 at the Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home, Hayward. Pastor Albert Oren officiated. Visitation was from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery in Hayward.

The Anderson-Nathan Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
