LAYTON EARNEST FORD

Layton Earnest Ford, 95, of Berry Creek, CA, passed away Aug. 16, 2011, with his loving wife, Georgia at his side.

Layton was born Dec. 26, 1915 to Willard and Myrtle Roundy Ford in Kanab, Utah. He was the middle child in his family of 11 siblings. He spent his childhood in Kanab, attending schools there. As a teenager, he drove trucks going from Kanab to Cedar City transporting gas.

He worked in Indonesia, Puerto Rico and Saudi Arabia constructing oil refineries. He worked as a millwright at the Naval shipyard in Vallejo, CA.

He married Iona Sarah Hooks. From this union came two daughters, LoRetta and Patricia. He then married Cleo Spicer and became an instant father to another daughter, Nancy. A son, James Earnest joined the family from this union. Upon Cleo's death, he married Sarah Nicoletti. After Sarah's death, he married Georgia Counts.

Layton loved to talk and tell stories of his overseas experiences.

Layton's posterity includes: 15 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia of Berry Creek; daughters, LoRetta Holt (Delbert), Patricia Ferre (Charles), Nancy McGuire (Ken); stepsons, David Counts (Donna), Tom Counts (Debbie), and John Counts (Monica); sisters, Betty McCain and Chloris Fricke, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Myrtle Ford, Cleo, Sarah, his son, James Earnest, three brothers, and five sisters.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Sat., Aug. 27, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Oroville 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 2390 Monte Vista Ave., Oroville, CA.

A Visitation for friends and family will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the chapel.
