Rufus, Fanny, Martha G., Lucy, Benjamin Franklin, Ambrose, Enos, Joseph W., John and A. Dana were children born to Joseph and Prudence Parks Corey. Joseph being the son of Jonathan and Martha Cooke Corey.Nine of the children were born in Luzerne Co PA between 1782-1806, their son, A. Dana was born Oct 1810 Allegany Co NY. Their father, Joseph was one of the few survivors of the Wyoming Valley Massacre Luzerne Co PA 3 Jul 1778.
18 Sep 1831 Danville Livingston Co NY Joseph married Mary Smith, her parents are unknown, she was born 06 Feb 1808. Their marriage was blessed with children: Joseph Lester, Mary Permilla, Harriett Sophronia, Lucy Jane and William Collins Corey.
Joseph called Allegany Co NY home for over fifty years where he was a very successful farmer.
There has been a lot written about Joseph, I feel the following is very memorable for him: He was elected to the State Representative position and only stayed in office for his elected term stating: " If one stays longer there is a very good chance that one could be corrupted." That certainly rings true today with the career politicians we are faced with. I don't believe there is one of them that doesn't come out of office a millionaire, going in they certainly were not rich. So it does pay to be a career politician. Seemed that Joseph knew it way back when.
1862 Jan 25 Joseph's wife Mary dies. He did marry again to
Elizabeth Wygent, there were no children from this union.
Joseph certainly did leave a wonderful legacy for the future of his family.
