03 Jul 1778 Wyoming Valley PA Massacre Joseph's brothers, Jenks, Rufus and Anson were killed in an Indian attack. Joseph escaped death or capture by hiding along a river bank.
Joseph was a Veteran of the Revolutionary War serving in PA. Although the unit he enlisted in was from Connecticut.
1780 Luzerne Co PA Joseph married Prudence Parks, daughter of Amos and Grace Herrick Parks.
There were ten children born to their marriage: 7 sons and 3 daughters: Rufus, Benjamin, (Twin sons Ambrose, Enos,) Joseph W., John and A. Dana, a son, was the only child born in Allegany Co NY. Daughters, Fanny, Martha G., Lucy.
Their first born Rufus, was my Grt Grt Grt Grandfather.
Joseph and Prudence moved their family from Luzerne Co Pa to Steuben Co NY between 1800-1810. There he bought a Grist Mill in Almond Allegany Co NY, 11 Jun 1818 he died from a fall within his mill.
Several of their children, and 59 grandchildren, yikes can you imagine how many great-grandchildren they must have had, moved westward, a few making it all the way to California and many states in between.
Many thanks to Donna Ryan of Almond NY for her work in seeing that a Rev War flag bracket was placed on Joseph's burial site.
