Alice Virginia Chittum, 72, of Route 1, Buena Vista, died Thursday, May 26, 1994, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Rockbridge County on November 6, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Harrison Hartless and Mary Elizabeth Clark Hartless.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, Harold L. Chittum, Buena Vista; four daughters, Alice H. Hamilton and Judy Madison, both of Buena Vista, Mildred Feltner, Charles City and Nadeli Dolan, Chester; a son, Carl V. Chittum, Buena Vista; two sisters, Marjorie Berry, Chester and Frances Southers, Fayetteville, N.C.; two brothers, Lawrence Hartless, Buena Vista and Tom W. Hartless, Fontana, CA; 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, at Lomax Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Alvin Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home
