Maj. Edmund D. Bistline, 59, died Tuesday at his home in Newark, N. J. He was a native of Newport, Perry county having once been associated with the Sherman Valley railroad and the Bethlehem Steel Company. A reserve officer in the United States Army he had been suffering from a heart ailment for some time.
He was a member of F. and A. M., Oriental Lodge, No. 27, Wilmington, Del., and held a honorary degree and Ph. D. from Columbia University.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. H. V. Rice and Mrs. O. W. Moyer, both of Newport, and one brother, George, Emporium.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Myers funeral home, Newport; the Rev. W. D. Mehrling, pastor, Evangelical and Reformed Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday after 7 p. m.
