George P. Bistline, 86, resident of Clifton Forge, Va., and a native and former resident of Newport, died Sunday in a convalescent home in Clifton Forge.
He had been superintendent of the U. S. Leather Co. here from 1918 to 1928. He left Newport for Cumberland, Md., to become Division Superintendent of the same company with supervision over plants in Maryland, West Virginia and Kentucky. Later he assumed similar duties in Clifton Forge, retiring some years ago.
Mr. Bistline was a member and one of the oldest past masters of Newport Lodge No. 381 of the Masons, and was a member of Royald Arch Chapter No. 238, Newport. He also was a member of the Knights Templar of Harrisburg and the Kazim Temple, Mystic Order of the Shrine, Roanoke, Va.
Survivors include a son, James A. Bistline of Alexandria, Va.; three daughters, Mrs. William Blumenauer of Chevy Chase, Md., Miss Louise Bistline of Clifton Forge and Sister Mary Victor Bistline of Savannah, Ga., and six grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday at the funeral home on Walnut St., Newport, with the Rev. Dr. James Moyer, president of the Central Pa. Conference, United Church of Christ, officiating. The Rev. Keller Brantley, pastor of the Newport United Church of Christ, assisted.
Burial was in Newport Cemetery, with Masonic rites conducted at the graveside by members of Newport Lodge.
