From the "Daily Dunklin Democrat," newspaper of Kennett, Missouri, Tuesday, September 18, 1956, page 7; "Charlie Hicks Services Today," Funeral services for Charlie C. Hicks of Kennett, were held this afternoon, at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Owen Sherrill, the pastor officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery, under the direction of Emerson and sons Funeral service. Grave side services were in charge of the V.F.W. of Kennett. Charlie C. Hicks was born at Linden, Tennessee, October 28, 1890, and died September 15, 1956, at the age of 65 years, 10 months, and 18 days. He was married to Mrs. Nora Buttery at Parma, December 9, 1920. Surviving beside his widow, are five step-children, Emery Buttery of Leavenworth, Kansas, Arthur Buttery and Cleo Buttery of Pontiac, Michigan, Johnny Buttery of Broseley, and Mrs. Lena Clanton of Kennett; 14 step-grandchildren; one brother C. D. Hicks of Flint, Michigan; three sisters, Mrs. Leorna Sexton of Hammond, Indiana, Mrs. Myrtle Henry and Mrs. Vera Allen of Parma; a host of other relatives and friends. Mr. Hicks united with the Baptist Church in 1928, at Flint, Michigan. He was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of World War I, and the V.F.W.
