Original biography on record added by Rattlebox (inactive) on Dec. 14, 2004 as follows:
"Son of Joseph Perkins and Harriet Draper. Husband of Rhoda Jane Frazer of Michigan, and/or Serelda Barnard of Iowa, and/or Mary Jane Wade of New York. May have had two children, Melissa Perkins (born in Michigan, 1845) and Emerson James Perkins (born in Iowa, 1849)"

REVISED details and following biography added by James Wesley Herbert, great grandson, June 5, 2012:
VINSON GIDEON PERKINS
Born: June 21, 1820, Stratford, Montgomery County, NY
In 1838, this part of Montgomery became Fulton County. Family records give his birth in Schenectady, Schenectady Co, NY, however, Aug. 7 1820 Federal Census lists his family in Stratford. An exhaustive search has not found any family members who were in Schenectady at that time based on the census so one may assume that his birthplace was as newly noted.

Died: Aug. 4, 1898, Tallahassee, Leon County, FL
Obit of Aug. 6, 1898 from Florida Times-Union and Citizen says he was visiting a "Mr. Leland" which would have been Ora Miner Leland, son of his niece, Harriet (Perkins) Leland.
