He was the son of James F Dakins and Minnie Unknown Dakins.

He married Linnie 'Matalee' Holmes Lantrip Tracy on August 31, 1956 in Indianapolis, Indiana at a Presbyterian Church on 38th Street.

From the Indianapolis Star - dated Jan 30, 1979:

Services for James E Dakins, 62, Indianapolis, will be held at 10 am today in Shirley Brothers Drexel Chapel, with burial in Washington Park East Cemetery. He died Sunday in Community Hospital.

A native of Delaware County and a resident here 25 years, Mr Dakins was employed by J D Gould Co. He was a member of Mystic Circle Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son: James W Dakins of Indianpolis and three daughters: Mrs Lois J Warner and Mrs Judith Lee Kempton, both of Indianapolis, and Mrs Rebecca Sue Greer of Muncie.

He died aqe age 62 years 9 months 3 days.
