Lois Dean Morrow was born September 21, 1924 in Houston County, Texas to Rollie Clinton and Susie Ellen Babb Morrow. She was the second child of five and the oldest girl. When she was ten years old, her mother died and Lois took over the job of cooking and caring for the house and her younger siblings. The relationships they built during this time lasted for the rest of their lives. Sometimes, her Aunt Ida would come to visit and send her out to play which made her aunt very special to her. She also had the help of her grandmother, Nancy Mahalia, sometimes. In 1935, her father remarried and life became easier.
Sometime after April 1940, her father went to work for the prison system and the family moved to Huntsville where Lois met Walter Buck Foster. In 1941, they married. Lois was 17 years old. Walter and Lois had four children, three girls and one boy.
