He was married to Sarah Jane McCort on June 29, 1848 in Carroll Co., Ohio.

Richard Bracken died Wednesday morning at 4:30 o'clock on his farm in Union Township, Carroll County, on which he lived for over 50 years. His remains will be interred at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery this forenoon at 10 o'clock and the funeral obsequies will be conducted by Rev. C. S. McGrath of Dellroy.
He was born in Jefferson county in June, 1823, hence was nearly 80 years old. When he was a child his parents moved to Carroll County. He was married to Sarah Jane McCort who died in October, 1901. They had nine children; those living are Mrs. Henry Rutledge, Mrs. E. B. Johnson, Miss Verne, Miss Maggie, and Messers. James H., David E. and Sherman. His religious affiliations were with the M. E. Church. This old pioneer was widely known and held in high esteem for his pleasant and social manner.
