PVT. Cornelius Bracken was the son of Cornelius and Rebecca Brackin. The family name is variously spelled "Bracken" in the research. He served his country as a Union soldier during the Civil War. PVT. Brackin as a member of Co. I., 157th Ohio National Guard Infantry.

"Carroll Chronicle", Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, November 19, 1875.

"Brackin--died November 16, 1875, after an illness of three weeks, of typhoid fever, at his residence near Pittsburgh, {PA} Cornelius Brackin, aged 35 years. deceased has been engaged in the mercantile business in this county, in Petersburg and also in Perrysville. For some time past he has been engaged in business at 103 Wood Street, Pittsburgh. His remains arrived yesterday afternoon, and were conveyed to Pleasant Grove Church, where a funeral sermon was delivered by Mr. Teter, and the body consigned to its last resting place."
