He was born in Columbus County on May 18, 1918, the son of the late John Swindell Gore and Frances L. Stocks Gore. He was preceded in death by two wife's, Maude Richardson Gore and Edith Fulcher Gore. And was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth O'Neal Gore, a son, Winfred McCray Gore, a brother, Nephi Gore, three sisters, Ila V. Hinson, Vestus Murrell and Evelyn Gore.
Mr. Gore owned and operated Eastern Mercantile for thirty-four years. He was member of the Juniper Hunting Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II. His love for gardening was very important to him.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Cox Aldridge Gore of the home; a daughter Carol Gore Hickman and husband, Jacob of Wilmington, NC; a grandson, Burnice Bryson Hickman; three great-grandchildren, Christopher B. Hickman, Jacob B. Hickman, Kayla McDowell; one great-great-grandchild, Sumer Rose McDowell; three step daughters, Jenell, Marleen, and Edwenna; two step-sons Gary Aldridge and Bob Aldridge; numerous Step grandchildren; three brothers, Liston Gore and wife, Annie of Wilmington, NC, C. Brooks Gore and wife, Levonia of Tabor City, NC and Hubert Gore and wife, Ester Lee of Lumberton, NC.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 16, 2005, at Old Zion Wesleyan Church by Reverend Jeffrey O. Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Oleander Chapel and other times at their residence.
Pallbearers will be: Liston Richardson, Larry Gore, Phil Gore, Daylon Gore, Mike Richardson and Jacob B. Hickman. Honorary pallbearers will be, Eugene Gore, L. B. Hickman and Darrell Stocks.
