Philip Etter, eighty-four, of 720 High St., died today at 10:15 a.m. in St. Joseph's Hospital after an illness of five months. He was born in Lancaster, the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Mishler Etter and was employed as a cigar maker at the Webster Eisenlohr Tobacco Co. for 38 years until his retirement in 1952. He was a member of St. Luke's Evangelical and Reformed Church. He also was a member of the Empire Council 120, Order of Independent Americans. Surviving are five daughters, Helen E., Glen Ridge, NJ; Florence, wife of Earl O. Gager, Florin; Irene M., Ruth E., wife of Arthur Wendel and Catherine M., wife of John Kiehl, all of Lancaster; three sons, Philip Jr., Walter E., and Charles E., all of Lancaster; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Etter, Lancaster and Margaret, wife of Paul McComsey, Queens, NY. (Lancaster New Era - Nov 24, 1954)
