Charles E. Etter, 84, of Lancaster, died Thursday at the Glen at Willow Valley after a brief illness. He attended Franklin & Marshall College and was employed by National Bearing Company for 43 years as a production supervisor until he retired in 1980. Etter was a 54 year member of the American Legion. He also was a life member of the Alert Club and a former member of the Columbia Elks. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, receiving the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, and the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal with two Bronze Stars. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Philip and Jane Brooks Etter. He was preceded in death by four brothers, John H., Robert, Walter and Philip; and seven sisters, Helen, Irene M., Grace, Anna Miller, Florence Gager, Ruth Wendel, and Catherine Kiehl.
