Mrs. Jewel M. Strickland, 81, formerly of 201 North River St., Calhoun, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in Gordon Hospital, following an illness of several days. Mrs. Strickland was a daughter of the late Ike and Lula White Fite, and was the widow of Edmond T. Strickland Sr., who died in June 1958. A Gold Star mother, she also was preceded in death by a son, Ellis Strickland. Mrs. Strickland had formerly been in the grocery business with her husband on North Wall Street, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include two sons, Max Strickland of Calhoun and Dr. Ed T. Strickland Jr., of Ocala, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Sylvia Ayers of Rome; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral was at 11 a.m. Friday (July 1, 1983) from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Randell Mickler conducting the service. Pallbearers included Ronald, Edmond and Stewart Strickland, Randall Talley, L. P. Owens, and Jim Lay. Interment was in Fain Cemetery.
