Henry J. Gan was the fourth child born to the union of William Carroll Gan and Sallie Ann Farmer.

It is told that Henry was the apple of his father's eye. He was the second son to live to the age of 14. He went everwhere with his father. On a trip back to Arkansas to visit family Henry was killed in an accident. William Carroll was so determined to bring his son home to be buried in the Raleigh Cemetery that he rode horse back with his childs body on another horse home to be buried.

The family was once again torn apart by death.

Henry was survived by his parents, 2 brothers, a sister, and Grandfather John J. Farmer.
