"Uncle Bill" was loved by all who knew him. All was done that loving hands and king hearts could do, but God knows best. He was laid beneath the sod in the Raleigh cemetery, December 25, at 2 p.m.
Oh how we miss his smiling face
And his tender loving care
His home is now a lonely place
No one to use his vacant chair
He is gone, but not forgotten
All his troubles and cares are o'er
We hope to meet him some sweet day
Over on that happy shore
The one we loved is far away
The hands we clasp are cold
But we hope he is safe in heaven
Walking the streets of gold
Our hearts are sad and lonely
Since dear "Uncle Bill" went away
But we hope he is happy
Where it is one eternal day
Written by one who loved him Gertie Sykes, JJ Sykes daughter and William Carroll Gan's niece.
