NY according to his death certificate but I believe it to be Columbia Co. NY, like his brother Joseph, which is where his mother's LOCKWOOD line hales from. There are land documents on the LOCKWOODs having sold land in Columbia Co. to move to MI. Husband of Harriet Elizabeth Huff Thompson , he raised one son, Frederick to adulthood and lost at least 2 in infancy. Smith served in enlisted in Company A, 12th Infantry Regiment Michigan on 19, December 1861. Attached in 11th Light Artillery Regiment Ohio on 10 January 1864. Returned on 9, April 1864. Discharged on 7, January 1865 in DeVall's Bluff, AR, during the Civil War.
