Daughter of John A. Lockwood and Abigail Polly Knapp Lockwood . (Some documents state her name as Polly Lockwood. Some record her as Abigail Polly.) Wife of Robert Thompson , buried in Anderson Cemetery, Decatur, Van Buren Co. MI, a short distance from the family home on the edge of Cass Co. Various documents show her name spelled, Cloresa (1850 Oakland Co. MI census), Carissa & Thresa (on both of her son's death certificates), then on her father's will as Surissa & Syrsia. Her grave stone spells it, Surrissa. She was a mother of five, Polly, Sarah, Joseph , Smith & Ellen.

The following information contains the biographies of Surrissa's daughters, as their information is a bit illusive.

Polly married Milo Fessenden (aka Miles, Mials, M.O.) on 7 Oct. 1850 & had a son named Willard in 1852. She died sometime afterwards. Polly Thompson's husband Milo was remarried to Polly Bell-a neighbor who lived just down the road. This Polly was younger and born in Indiana. Milo & his second wife left Michigan & moved to Kansas where they raised the family. Second marriage information for Milo as follows: Marriage record for Milo Fessenden (recorded in this record as Meal O. Fessenden). Book A Page 223, date of Marriage Feb. 27 1859. Place not listed.
Groom Meal O. Fessenden age 29 Marcellus, Cass Co. MI.
Bride Poly E. Bell age 23 of Porter (Spelling for both names as found in marriage index.)

Sarah married Thomas Grinnell on 23 May 1852. Sarah died sometime before 27 Aug. 1855. (When Thomas remarried, he married Elizabeth Corwin on 27 Aug. 1855 in Oakland County, MI. In the 1860 census he had a daughter that was named Sarah that is three years old. The surname is spelled GRINNELS in the 1860 census. In the 1870 & 1880 census the name is spelled Grinolds. Daughter Sarah Elizabeth married Lester F. Jordan in N. Lansing, MI Dec. 24,1881.)

Ellen married James Sheldon 16 July 1863. James was the son of Fordyce Sheldon and Rachel Hosford Sheldon. Ellen & James disappeared and I have yet to track them down.

Surrissa's husband Robert outlived her and died sometime after 1870. I have yet to locate his death record. If he is buried by Surrissa, then he has no marker.
