DUMAS - J.W. "Tots" Baird, 86, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Morrison Funeral Directors Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Scott Willingham, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Additional services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Briarwood Church at Pampa with the Rev. Gene Allen, retired pastor of the Assembly of God in Pampa, and the Rev. Lynn Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Mobeetie Cemetery at Mobeetie.

Mr. Baird was born in Mira, La. He had been a longtime Pampa resident before moving to Dumas four years ago. He was a carpenter and a member of First Baptist Church. He also was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 1381 and the Scottish Rite.

Mr. Baird married Bessie McAvoy Gober in 1995 at Dumas. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Lea Baird, in 1985; and by a daughter, Sharon Kay Baird, in 1953.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Barbara Bruce of Pampa; two sons, Jim Baird of Clarendon and Buster Baird of Topeka, Kan.; four sisters, Mary Christian of Grapevine, Lois Moore of Winnsboro, Helen White of Mission and Dula Burress of Garland; a stepdaughter, VaLoise Savage of Lubbock; two stepsons, William Gober of Houston and Charles Gober of Amarillo; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. Second Ave., Dumas, TX 79029.
