Bessie Gober Baird, 95, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010. Memorial services are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2010 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Howe, pastor of First Baptist Church in Dumas officiating. Interment was in Dumas Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.

Bessie Gober Baird was born in Palo Pinto County, Texas to William Howard and Macy Jane McAvoy on Sept 1, 1915. She moved with her parents to Wheeler County in December 1925. She attended school in both Miami and Mobeetie.

Bessie married W.T. Gober on October 14, 1933. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1992. She married J.W. "Tots" Baird on June 6, 1995. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2000. Bessie resided at 1224 Beard since May 7, 1943 until health problems caused her to move into the Dumas Nursing and Rehabilitation center in October 2001.

Bessie was preceded in death by an infant son, Bobby Gene in October 1937, step-son, Jim Baird on March 10, 2006, step-daughter, Barbara Bruce, on September 19, 2008 and step-grandson, Vance Bruce, on February 6, 2000.

Survivors include: sons, William Gober and wife Yvonne of The Woodlands and Charles Gober and wife Virginia of Amarillo; daughter, Valoise Savage of Lubbock; one brother, Odelle "Dugan" McAvoy and wife Colene of Dumas; step-son, H.L. "Buster" Baird and wife Sue of Howardwick; step-daughter in-law, Marietta Baird of Howardwick;
step-son-in-law Jerry Bruce of Pampa; sisters-in-law, Alma Goodner, Mary Christian, Helen White, and Dula Burress; 15 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews

The family suggests memorials be to First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 617, Dumas, TX 79029 or to Memorial Hospice, 224 E. 2nd, Dumas, TX 79029.
