Walter's first marriage, (1826) in Henry Co., KY, was to Miss Elizabeth Mowrey. The Bradens were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and contributed generously to the erection of the first church building in Greensburg. Walter was a Whig who worked diligently for the election of Abraham Lincoln.
Walter and Elizabeth (Mowrey) Braden were parents of ten children, three daughters and seven sons. Eight of these Braden progeny survived to adulthood.
Following Elizabeth's 1853 death, Walter Braden married Anna K. Meek who survived him. Mr. Braden's death was caused by heart disease.
