The third son of William and Euphemia (Jackson) Braden, Walter Braden migrated with his parents from PA, first to Scott Co., KY and then to Decatur Co., IN. He was a well-known farmer and land owner in Clay Twp., Decatur Co., who later purchased property in Greensburg to which he retired prior to 1870.
Walter's first marriage, (1826) in Henry Co., KY, was to Miss Elizabeth Mowrey. The Bradens were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church and contributed generously to the erection of the first church building in Greensburg. Walter was a Whig who worked diligently for the election of Abraham Lincoln.
Walter and Elizabeth (Mowrey) Braden were parents of ten children, three daughters and seven sons. Eight of these Braden progeny survived to adulthood.
Following Elizabeth's 1853 death, Walter Braden married Anna K. Meek who survived him. Mr. Braden's death was caused by heart disease.
