The son of William and Euphemia (Jackson) Braden, William, Jr. was born after the family had migrated from PA to KY. He removed with his family to Decatur Co., IN, where he married Polly Graham Feb. 6, 1827. Sadly, William died just twelve years later "in the 32nd year of his age," leaving his widow to raise six young children.

Regrettably, Polly Braden passed away less than six years later, at which time William's brother, Walter, was named guardian of his niece and five nephews.

In 1847 Walter Braden reported to the Decatur Co. orphans court that he had purchased 960 acres of land in IA for his wards with monies received from the sale of William's Decatur Co. real estate. The IA land was a part of the federal land sales in the newly formed county of Keokuk.

By 1860, all of William and Polly Braden's children had removed to IA; their sons to Keokuk Co., and their daughter, with her husband, to Des Moines Co.

The sons of William and Polly Braden were: Jackson G., Joseph A., Walter, Robert C. and John L. The Braden daughter was named Ruth Jane.
