RODANTHE, N.C. - Fred O'Neal, 74, husband of Mrs. Beulah Midgette O'Neal and son of Jacob and Mrs. Mary Douglas O'Neal, died in a Norfolk hospital Saturday [June 15, 1963] at 9 p.m. He was a member of Fairhaven Methodist Church and was retired from the US Coast Guard after 27 years of service.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons: Oscar O'Neal of the Coast Guard and Arval O'Neal and Jimmy O'Neal of Norfolk; five daughters: Mrs. Helen Midgette and Mrs. Cynthia Williams of Elizabeth City, Mrs. Zenovah Hooper of Salvo, N.C., Mrs. Lovie Midgette of Chesapeake, Va., and Mrs. Olive Patrick of Norfolk; two sisters: Mrs. Creedon Midgette and Mrs. Rebecca Midgette. RODANTHE - Funeral services for Fred B. O'Neal, who died in U.S. Public House Hospital in Norfolk, were conducted Thursday afternoon in Fairhaven Methodist Church by the Rev. C.W. Guthrie, retired Methodist minister. A duet "How Great Thou Art" was sung by Mrs. Norma Cahoon and Edgar Hooper. The choir sang "Beyond the Sunset", "My Soul in Sad Exile" and "The Last Mile of the Way". Mrs. Jack Cahoon accompanied at the organ.

The casket was draped with an American flag and the casket pall consisted of red and white carnations and fern. Military services were conducted at the grave with E.R. Hudson, G.J. Gerarida, W.G. Lewis, F.T. Merritt, F.N. Chaudior, H.D. Scarborough and F.M. Fisher as pallbearers. Burial followed in the family cemetery.
